Toyota has renewed passion for design - New vehicles feature innovation

Canadians require a lot from their vehicles, and to meet these needs Toyota offers a broad variety of choices — from subcompacts ideal for negotiating urban cores and compact or mid-size daily drivers, to minivans able to carry families in comfort, SUVs for versatility, and pickup trucks for adventure and work.

At the same time, Canadians desire fresh, fun-to-drive choices when they shop for a new car. Again, they can turn to Toyota Canada as we introduce four new vehicles this fall to kick off an extensive lineup change, with 18 new Toyota, Lexus and Scion models coming to Canada over the next two years.

New Prius v

The Prius is the most proven advanced technology hybrid vehicle in the world — and with one little letter “v” Toyota adds a big helping of versatility to the innovative ambassador for future friendly motoring. The all-new Prius v is designed to meet the needs of growing families with active lifestyles. It features 50 per cent more interior cargo space and comfortable seating for five, with remarkable flexibility to carry people and stuff. And like the current Prius, the Prius v is a showcase of technology — from its four driver-selectable operating modes and smart-key system, to available LED headlamps, dynamic radar cruise control, and resin panoramic moonroof. At the same time, the Prius v enjoys all the benefits of Toyota hybrid DNA — including the best fuel efficiency of any SUV, crossover or wagon on the market and a 66-per-cent reduction in smog-forming emissions compared to the average new vehicle.

New Camry

Completely redesigned for 2012, Toyota’s signature sedan is a showcase of bold and advanced styling with a fresh exterior design and a sophisticated interior. Engineering innovation introduces class-leading features for a smoother, quieter driving experience, especially at highway speeds. The 2012 Toyota Camry features aerodynamic stability technology developed for Formula One racing, plus a redesigned suspension and responsive power steering for driving fun and satisfying performance. And the interior is more spacious, featuring roomier front seats and more headroom and knee room for rear-seat passengers. Toyota has also introduced new levels of safety, including a new seat design for driver and front-seat passenger that helps minimize whiplash during a collision, and the addition of three airbags for a total of 10.

The new Camry will feature many of the same options that made the current generation so popular, including a choice of fuel-efficient 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine or the powerful 3.5-litre V6.

Toyota has never forgotten that paying attention to fuel efficiency — to help customers save money for the more important things in their lives — has contributed to our success, and brought Canadian drivers back to Toyota year after year. That’s why we offer Canadians the largest lineup of models equipped with fuel-efficient, yet powerful four-cylinder engines, with 14 Toyota and Scion brands currently available in Canada.

And Toyota will introduce the all-new Scion iQ and redesigned Toyota Yaris Hatch this fall.

New Scion iQ

The iQ is all new. It’s the world’s smallest four-seater and the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid in the market. Canadians love compact vehicles, and as the company that offers the largest selection of small vehicles, Toyota sets a new standard for small-car innovation with the iQ. It has a premium interior that’s surprisingly spacious, thanks to engineering innovations like the world’s flattest gas tank and smallest air-conditioning system. It’s the safest in its class, with an industry-leading 11 airbags, including the world’s first rear-window curtain airbag. The iQ tames urban traffic with a small footprint and the tightest turning radius in its class. And as a Scion, it’s well-equipped and fully customizable — with an MSRP below $17,000.

New Yaris Hatch

Another redesigned model for 2012, this distinctive subcompact delivers new levels of safety, style and spaciousness. The Yaris Hatch features a class-leading nine airbags, including new driver knee airbag and front seat cushion airbags. Its compact, lightweight 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine is efficient yet powerful, delivering up to 106 horsepower, while its tight turning radius, European-style handling and extended wheelbase create a nimble urban runabout and confident highway driver. The fresh exterior boasts sharper lines and sleek styling for a bold, sporty appearance while the more generous interior includes better legroom for all occupants and innovative storage ideas.

Quality, safety, sustainability and passion. These four models have unique drivers in mind, but like all vehicles we build, they share our commitment to quality, safety and sustainability. Like all Toyotas, these four are standard equipped with the Star Safety System — six advanced active safety technologies that improve handling and braking performance to help drivers avoid accidents. And Canadians can buy with confidence, knowing our vehicles are consistent award winners for quality, dependability, and impressive resale values.

Those values will never change, but for the 2012 model year and beyond Canadians will experience — and benefit from — Toyota’s renewed passion for automotive design and innovation.
